a home that reflects your real life
Where joy, chaos, color, and meaning all belong

MKW Interior Design celebrates your family OR BRAND’S one-of-a-kind story — thoughtfully incorporating kids, pets, toys, heirlooms, mess, art, budgets, storage needs, and real-life function into spaces that feel as personal as they are beautiful.

We specialize in colorful, personality-filled interiors that blend high style with real practicality. Every project starts by understanding who you are and how you live. Then we build from there, layering in function, memory, whimsy, and detail to create a home that’s as vibrant and dynamic as your people.

These values are how MKW aims to work and live

Empathy.

Rooted in IDEO’s Human-Centered Design, MKW starts by developing a deep understanding of the people we’re designing for — how you live and work, what matters most, and what gets in your way.

Excellence Not Perfection.

We aim incredibly high in both vision and execution. But perfection isn’t the goal. Life is messy, and homes should make space for that. After all, perfection is the enemy of creativity and growth.

Collaboration.

Our process is deeply collaborative, built on mutual trust, shared decision-making, and joyful co-creation.

Kindness and Integrity.

We aim to treat everyone — clients, tradespeople, vendors, and fellow creatives — with honesty, respect, and generosity.

Growth.

We’re always learning. When we get it wrong, we own it and do better. We’re here to grow, not to posture.

"Be curious. Not judgmental."

Mary Kathryn Wells is known for bringing rigor and heart in equal measure. With more than 15 years in public education before founding her interior design studio, MKW pairs a Human-Centered Design lens with meticulous project management and joyful creativity. Her work is exuberant, layered, and deeply personal, balancing big design vision with systems that make life easier for busy families.

She now lives in Nashville with her husband, three kids, and dog, after a decade in New York City and a couple years on Maui. Together with her Design & Project Manager Amy Beemer Lev (based in the Bay Area of California), she supports clients around the country.

“MKW listened to what we liked and didn’t like about our house and worked with that instead of just offering suggestions of how our home would look better."
