A historic New York City townhome

Brooklyn, NY

The owners of this 120-year-old Brooklyn brownstone — gut renovated by Ben Bischoff and his team at MADE Design/Build — wanted the interiors to reflect what they lovingly called the home’s “feminine grandeur.” Their vision: a space that felt artistically rich, deeply personal, and fully ready to host a fabulous party (their words: “You should walk in and think, damn — this is going to be a great party!”).

From custom millwork inspired by Parisian bistros to a pink-and-white Moroccan zellige tile floor in the entry, the home balances historic soul with playful personality. We mixed existing pieces with strategic new investments to maximize the budget, including a white boucle sofa that’s not as risky as it looks: it’s stain-resistant performance fabric, and yes, a five-year-old lives here.

Eclectic treasures from the family’s travels bring story and texture throughout, resulting in a layered, joyful space that honors both the home's past and the family's present.
